The problem is that there is too much to learn too quickly. This is because Griftlands doesn’t shy away from throwing you under the bus. I was constantly scratching my head in confusion. The first few hours were confusing as heck. Sadly, the first impression wasn’t that great. But that doesn’t mean I want every game I play to be a card game. Monster Train is an amazing successor to Slay the Spire and Hearthstone is still one of the few games I play purely for fun. And don’t get me wrong, I like cards games.

Because of the amazing success of Hearthstone and Slay the Spire card-game mechanics seem to be taking over the world. I do like combat but when a game proclaims you can talk you way out of everything – that’s gonna be a challenge! And I LOVE challenges!īut then the cards game. But the biggest thing for me was the advertised option to talk you way out of everything. The stylized comic-like graphics inside a sci-fi world was certainly a big part of that. I need to tell you why Griftlands excited me. I will be honest, there is more I need to say before the review of the game itself unfolds. So, they turned the core gameplay loop into a card game instead. The developers realized that if they continued on the path towards creating an RPG they would have likely never have finished. At least when it comes to the core gameplay loop. But Griftlands is among us so let’s see whether it lives up to the very long hype as it is no longer just in alpha on the Epic store but also available in early access on Steam.Īnd before the review itself starts, I need to say that Griftlands is no longer an RPG game. Games like Agent from Rockstar, EITR, Routine, and many more… and until recently, even the open-world hand-drawn RPG Griftlands. And even games have such titles among them.

Fans of the Game of Thrones books could probably write a seperate book about waiting for a book. At least when compared to little bits of info constantly appearing keeping you hooked but just never delivering. On the other hand, maybe it’s the better solution. You die a lot, but, you get better at it and with any luck you get really cool gear and you start putting the smack down and destroying everyone in your path.until your ammo starts running low and you've got a bad curse and the demons of Bullet Hell that you've been dragged down to are too tough, but there's always next time.We all know the feeling when a game that looks great and you really wanted to play it gets canceled. Like they got guns that shoot guns that shoot bullets or you can get a gun that shoots black holes, or have a dog or a wolf and/or a skeleton companion that attacks enemies or a junk man by your side or you could get lucky and get a clone or get a stop watch to activate Super Hot mode where time is down to a crawl unless you move, etc. But, most importantly the game is really fun with the dodge roll to go through bullets as a main mechanic in addition to the twin stick shooting and crazy active & passive items/guns combos and synergies and different room layouts each time I think it's one of the best games ever made. Then you do it again and again and you get better at it, unlocking all the secret characters and merchants and game modes, and secret levels, there's just so much to do, you can play it hundreds of times and see something new each time. Every time you play you're unlocking something, some crazy new gun or item to your Ammonomicon, or if you can pass a level (there are only 5 regular levels to get through) you get money to buy things after you die.
